As a general rule – if you’ve received a suspicious email, offer, employment opportunity or other communication from someone purporting that they work for or represent MARA (formerly Marathon Digital Holdings), it’s very likely fraudulent activity.
Yes, individuals and businesses must remain vigilant against fraudulent schemes that falsely claim to be associated with MARA. These scams often aim to deceive people into sending money or sharing personal information.
Common fraudulent activities include:
- Phishing Emails: Attempting to acquire personal information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in electronic communications.
- Advance Fee Fraud: Requesting advance payment with the promise of a larger reward, which is never delivered.
- Fake Job Postings: Soliciting money or personal details under the guise of employment opportunities with MARA.
- Impersonation Scams: Individuals falsely claiming to represent MARA in various types of transactions. Use of sophisticated AI tools to create convincing but fake audio or video content, impersonating MARA representatives or executives to solicit personal information or money.
These are just a few examples, and scammers continually develop new methods.
If you receive unusual requests for money, personal information, or offers that involve MARA please know that this is very likely fraudulent activity. We encourage you to follow these steps:
- Do Not Respond or Engage: Avoid replying to the request or engaging with the sender.
- Verify the Source: Contact MARA through our official email, verify@mara.com, to confirm the legitimacy of the communication.
- Report the Incident: Notify MARA at verify@mara.com and consider reporting to local law enforcement authorities.
- Stay Informed: Educate yourself about common types of fraud and stay updated on new scamming techniques.
MARA never requests payment as part of its recruitment process. Official communications will always originate from official email addresses [@mara.com]. If you receive a suspicious job offer, it’s very likely fraudulent activity. Please do not send any money or personal information. Instead, forward the communication to verify@mara.com.
AI deepfakes can be particularly deceptive, using advanced technology to create realistic images or videos. To protect yourself:
- Verify the source: Be cautious of unsolicited communication. Cross-check with official MARA channels.
- Look for inconsistencies: Deepfakes may have subtle flaws in voice or image quality.
